Life Is Strange 2 : Episode 3 - VFX

For Life Is Strange 2 Episode 3 "Wastelands", I used Houdini a lot more and started working on bigger scenes with the help of my Lead Orson Favrel. Like my first money shot with the big trunk lift up by Daniel on the lake. It was not an easy task, but I learned a lot of things and tried to create differents types of effects : Environtal ones like insects, smoke, fire, water ; ambient ones like fog and fake light particles sprites ; cinematic and gameplay ones like Daniel's power effects, etc. I also made by myself a dynamic water wave simulation system with the use of render targets, materials and blueprints, for some cinematic sequences.

I worked on all the power effects (Air distortion, color fringe effects, power or levitation trails), the grass and pebbles particles and all the water effects (Waves, foam, flow, drops and splashes).

I worked on all the water materials and effects (The splashes, foam, and wave simulation made thanks to some render targets) and the fake moonlight specular effect.

I worked on all the power effects (Air distortion, color fringe effects, power or levitation trails), the shards particles, the trunk destruction simulation on Houdini with smoke particles.

I worked on all the power effects (Air distortion, color fringe effects, power or levitation trails), all the ground effects (ground and pebbles particles), the smoke and impact effects.

The campfire effect (Semi procedrual flames material I made, sparks, embers and smoke particles I tweaked). The flame's flipbook texture was made by my Lead VFX Artist, Orson Favrel.
